Star 2: Transition to healthy beverages. The default choice on pediatric patient menus/trays should be milk. When juice is served, only 100 percent juice should be served. When serving milk, serve recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) free milk and non fat (skim) milk or low-fat when deemed medically appropriate; use Bisphenol A (BPA) free containers and/or reusable cups. The healthy beverage transition should also be applied to adults when applicable.

How do you know the containers you’re purchasing are free of BPA and milk is r-BGH (or r-BST) free? How will your hospital ensure the guidelines will continue to be met in 2 - 3 or more years from now? Will your hospital expand these guidelines to adult patients, why or why not?

  2. Attach a copy of your hospital's purchasing specifications for the products pertaining to this star.
  3. Attach a copy of the companies' specs for products your hospital is purchasing in order to meet the requirements of this star.
  4. Attach a document with links to the multiple product specifications your hospital purchases in order to meet the requirements of this star.
